The Algae Society: Bio Art & Design Lab

The Algae Society is as a global collective of interdisciplinary researchers working to establish a new community with algae as a non-human international research partner.

Cyanobacteria: “also known as blue-green algae, are prokaryotic life forms. This basically means that their cells don’t have organelles (tiny structures inside cells that carry out specific functions) and do not have distinct nuclei—their genetic material mixes in with the rest of the cell. This characteristic is distinctive of bacteria and archaea; all other life forms on Earth, including real algae, consist of eukaryotic cells with organelles and with genetic material contained in one place (the nucleus).”

The Algae Society is a collective of artists, scientists and scholars, they have focused their lens to collaborate, cooperate, experiment, design and exhibit with algae as a united society in an interdependent system of organisms. As working group they aim to collaborate, conceive, cooperate, and experiment with algae as a united society bound together in an interdependent system of organisms adapting to global warming. Their collaboration is a creative approach that seeks to benefit, support and educate the public of our symbiotic relationship.
